Welcome to the Artwork of Elizabeth Van Wazer

My life in Essex, Connecticut

I have been a practicing artist for over 20 years, however I have been an artist at heart all of my life, interrupted by having a family, a successful career, travel and tragedy.  And now, approaching my 93rd birthday on December 3rd, I find my muse to be in the form of applying wet paint to canvas.  As it glides over the weave, my mind helps my fingers create imaginary and fondly remembered places.  Painted places that I hope will draw viewers to linger in front of my creations, and perhaps even want to bring them home to enjoy forever.

I still enjoy participating and competing in regional art shows, and keeping active in the art community.  As a World War II Veteran, having served my country in the Womans Royal Naval Service for four and a half years during the time Hitler was raining bombs and rockets on England, I have many stories to share.  I am occasionally invited to speak about my experiences in England during the war, and I am proud to be able to share information about this important time in history.  I not only have survived the darkness of war, but many other of life's challenges; and to quote Winston Churchill, Prime Minister during WWII, "We wil never give up.  We will fight them in the air, on the sea and on land.  But we will never give up."  This is how I feel about being a survivor: have hope, determination, and pray.

Below is a photo of me along with a few of my paintings.  I will be adding more in the future, so stay tuned!
